Speaking My Name 12/18/2010
I was on my way down the hallway of the nursing home when i heard someone call my name. I recognized his voice so I was eager to turn and talk with him. He had been a resident for about six months. He told me he was about to return home and he wanted to thank me for taking time to get to know him. He thanked me for talking to him even when I was coming up to visit my mother. He reminded me how nice it is when people come in, speak your name and take time to get to know who you are. A flood of emotion came over me and I was so blessed.. Did he realize what a gift he was to me and how many days he lifted my spirit by speaking my name and taking time to talk with me? Even though a few decades may separate us what we have in common is the deep ache for engagement, name to name, face to face, and moment to moment. This is the kind of encounter where we both leave feeling seen. For me that day it underlined once again what is really important in this world. God has given us a name, He see’s us, He really listens, He stops and loves and cares. 1 Comment Seeing the Unseen 11/14/2010
